It appears that after a
long battle Microsoft Windows XP has almost lost its war with the elements as
it slips into the shadows of cyberspace history, I say almost because at
present it appears that of all people, the British Government has come to its
rescue. . . . . I know it's a shock. But
there are good sound reasons for this, the underlying main one being, the IT
folk of the British government are all getting on a bit (like the Ghost Writer)
and Windows XP is integrated so deeply into some of the database systems it
will be a serious pain in the ***** to untangle the mess. Old IT folk do not
like hassle so if they can keep it alive for a while longer they will all get
to retire and leave some young keen IT geek to sort it all out.
Anyway as I was chit
chatting about in the vast voids of cyberspace I found some Linux folk
sniggering and not being nice about Windows XP.
Linux users have historically always seen themselves as the rebellious
underdog fighting the fight of the common man against the grinding wheels of
the establishment and true it was the case back in the old days when most folk
did not understand Linux and just wanted to look at a cute cat on the internet.
But I feel the tide has
turned the true eccentrics of cyberspace have finally said lets get retro and
say enough is enough, leave us to bimble about with what we like and know and
are happy with. We don’t want more and more new shiny operating systems and
devices, most folk hardly scratch the surface of the old systems before it is
deemed obsolete.
So today I have started
the . . . . . WE LOVE XP campaign KEEP WINDOWS XP UNDEAD, it has the added
advantage I get to draw Zombies, Banshees and Vampires and everyone likes a
friendly Zombie. I will tell you all now it is a futile and ultimately doomed
campaign, but has all the makings of a truly maverick and eccentric campaign
that will keep all those young IT geeks annoyed for ages as they proclaim I am
an IDIOT and XP is Rubbish. But we all know they are wrong as it is really easy
to look at cute cats on the internet with and that is what counts (No the cat
is not counting . . . it just looks like it on Youtube).

You know they have that teleBision show caLLed The Walking Dead, so they should have The Computing Dead. My first industrial grade computer to babysit was an HP, circa 1980ish, minicomputer in a laboratory. It gathered data from gas chromatographs.

DeleteHang On Mr ESB surely you are not saying XP is the walking dead, it is just a mere scratch and it will be as right as rain (Yes its one of those sayings again) in no time when Mr Bill Gates gets all nostalgic and wants it back.
XP dead? No, I didn't say that, hmmm, I thoughtyou did... I enjoyed XP. I use Windows 8 for my main art computer and I enjoy the computer and have the large touch screen and the attached drawing pad, it is veRy powerful and handles eXtremely huge art files BUT I think the overpriced CorelDRAW and even more expensive design software for my embroidery work are terribly buggy and CorelDRAW hangs and crashes. Now I haven't even had version 6 veRy long and suddenly they want me to upgrade for $200 to version 7. Some weeks I use it probably more than 30 hours so it is important.
DeleteNo XP is grand I am an UNdead XP man, well when I say undead man I mean I am not dead, not one of the undead. This is also the basis of my We LOVE XP campaign . . . when I say we, it is just basically me, the campaign is not going well.
DeleteI can see if you have a touch screen then Windows 8 makes sense, but my PC is as old as XP is so those technical advances are far beyond me I do not own a touch screen anything, I kind of need buttons to press.
I have a tip for CorelDraw Mr ESB see if you can find an older version, most of them do the same and when I did use it several million years ago it was designed for a PC of the future. If may be they are still doing stuff like that so an older one might be a little less likely to crash.
I have been attacked by a Zombie today, they are pesky beasts, This is not good for my campaign if the very image I plan to use then turns rounds and bites me. . . .
It would be nice if the CorelDRAW people would let you have an older version for free if you already owned the latest version, or if not free at a steep discount that covered the reproduction costs. I can at least now see I am making some progress with the software after about 7 months in business.

ReplyDeleteUndead Windows XP and Home Edition. I have XP and I've heard something will soon go wrong....very wrong and evidently my spalling, um, my spelling will get worse because it really isn't me going my keyboard.

DeleteI miss XP. But I also miss Vista. I'm thinking it's possible my Vista harddrive blew in Feb because Microsoft did one last ... "update" ... and that's what killed it. "Convert to the new software or have nothing!!!"

Vista was not popular in the commercial world and was seen as the child of the devil. As a result I stayed well clear. I still use XP and it is quite happy with most things and more than up to the world of blogging
