Moths and Gun Shots

It is very late for me 11:00pm so rather late for tonight’s diary entry there are two reasons for this, well OK three. The first is that we have been out for a meal in the very nice and always chilled and friendly Sun Inn in Marton where I had rather excellent fish and chips, so we did not leave until about 9:30pm to head home. This brings us the second reason dad does not like to drive fast at this time of year because there are millions of moths that fly at the headlights of the car. By not going fast they at least have a fighting chance. I took a rather half decent picture of one that was in the house this morning too, yes it appears there are also millions of moths in the house as well as on the roads.  The final delay in writing my diary was due to the man with the gun… No it’s true it was a bit weird but that’s life in the country.

It appears as we got out of the car back at the house that we heard a gun shot not the blast of 12 bore but a rifle. We are used to the sound of 12 bore because during the shooting season the men from the city, the bankers and the like come to take pot shots at anything that moves pretending it is the public….

But tonight was different; there was a single vehicle with a spot lamp on the roof slowly driving round the fields a few hundred yards way. They then slowly drove up to the main road and then back down the little lane and off round the back of the woods. We only heard the one shot however, but all a bit odd really……. It is just likely that they may have been chasing Mr Foxy, but Mr Foxy is very cunning indeed. I know what Mr Jones will say tomorrow he will say it was aliens.

OK its late now and I need to keep my head down so see you tomorrow ...

    1. It was but everything appears OK today, which is the big grand opening of the Olympics. Sadly as I am some distance from London and just an ordinary man in the street I am was never going to get there so I might get to see a bit on a Television......

  2. Yuk! Moths! Just butterflies in make-up.
The random shot ringing out in the dark, sounds pretty scary. Maybe it was aliens shooting at Mr Foxy or vice versa. Anything his possible in cyberspace.

Absolutely adore the RATS Diploma but cannot for the life of me, think why it isn't recognized but the Godzilla Appreciation Society.

    1. Here in the country Miss Lily there really are millions of moths at this time of year. A friend who has a friend told me it was a foxy hunt or maybe even a badger hunt. It is illegal to shot badgers but it still happens rather a lot.

Glad you like the RATs Diploma Miss Lily I thought a Blogging diploma sounds so much grander that an award. As for the Godzilla Appreciation Society they are just in a grump with dad still after the giant gnome incident

  3. Today is add-venture day, hopefuLLy, anyway. There is some lawyer somewhere trying to muck it up, but another kinder gentler lawyer trying to unmuckify it for me. SeLLing a house can be such a pain, the delays on this one have been horrendous. I just noticed the horrendous has house in it, so a house-less horrendous could be orrnd. If you remove a 'horse' from [hor]r[e]ndou[s] you get a 'round'. So this sentence should be such a delight to smaLL children everywhere:

"Mother, look, a round horse, how horrendous!"

    1. House sales are indeed horrendous, here in the Britain the accent Celts lived in roundhouses... and it is very likely that at least one of them was called Orrnd.

Your observation of words is very impressive I am just pleased to spell most of them correctly....

I wish you well with the house sale and hope it is sorted soon.... As you know (I think) we had all sorts of problems with ours, so we are never moving again now.

  4. That's an interesting moth, the ones we get are just brown/grey and boring. No spots!
    A single shot, that's a bit ominous...

    1. It is quite a common Moth called The Magpie.

The shot was a bit spooky.... I would have felt happier if it had been a 12bore really but all is well again for now.

  5. I bet it was a gaint moth... A QUEEN MOTH that was being hunted by some sort of travelling lepidoperist. all the other moths are scouts looking for nice clothes for her to feed on. thats what i reckon it was....

    1. Thank you Mr H I agree with you entirely. It is really nice to see you getting into the spirit of the blog..... I imagine you have a fair selection of Moths on the camp for the punters. You could do the evening moth hunt competition with a chart and a prize to the winner of say a packet of moth balls (not a moths ball) ........ HAH HAHHAH HHAH HAH HAHH HA HAH HAH hah hah hah hah hahah hhah ahahha
