The Scottish Independence debate and why the Scots will vote NO to Scotlands Independance

As a Scot living in England right on the border with Wales, having lived in Wales half my life I am watching the Scottish Independence debate with much interest. Because of where I live I get no vote which is a little ironic as many English living in Scotland do get to vote, I would vote YES myself, but in the last 48 hours feel the tide has turned and the NO vote is almost certainly going to win.

You see the Scots are a wild and passionate lot and in a battle will hold their pointy sticks and swords high and charge shouting rude things at the enemy even when outnumbered and with no hope of winning. Well I say that; this is what used to happen in the old days and 99% of the time sure enough we lose, but just on the odd occasion we win and we will cheer and relish the moment knowing that ultimately our glory will be short lived and we will be defeated by overwhelming odds. Just look at the Scottish football team.

The YES campaign lead by Alex Salmond (who needs to get into some tartan) at one time focused on this built in wild passion and belief that has seen the national football team continue to be supported even though most of the time they lose.   But in the last couple of days the YES campaign has lost its passion it has been dragged down into the nitty gritty of everyday life and questions like . . . . Will my ASDA shopping cost a bit more . . . . .

Such arguments are futile, we are the people of Scotland, who can say if becoming independent will work or not for sure, or even staying part of the United Kingdom will be in Scotland’s long term interest. Let’s face it up to now the powers that be in England have not really cared about Scotland.  And saying . . . . ASDA will put its prices up . . . . Should make no difference.  We should be heading towards polling day waving our swords and pointing pointy sticks singing and making rude gestures at the English establishment.  The people of Scotland should be following their hearts and Rob Roy MacGregor rather than worrying about ASDA. Which is why I knew the campaign for YES was doomed when I heard a Scot saying . . . . . . The supermarkets saying we should vote NO has finally made me decide to vote to keep the Union . . . . . .  This is not the talk of a mad rampant Scotsman charging over the moors his kilt flying in the air.

In other news Ian the Musical Hat Maker (A Scot) and Auntie Karen (A Viking) called by so that Mr Ian could tune our piano (from Scotland. . . . OK German made) and we all had a jolly good time.  And had a lovely meal which all came from the local village Market . . . NOT ASDA

  1. Ooh Rob Z, The lil man was just asking me which way you would vote. (he's more up on politics than I am) The polls for 'yes' aren't looking too good at the moment, so I think that you could be right.

    1. Its a close call but folk hate the unknown they always think it is full of Zombies, Banshees and Vampires. When the reality is it is full of Vampires, Banshees and Zombies. . . . . AH

I will say that the main banks including RBS have warned that they think its a bad move. Yes the very banks who almost destroyed the financial sector of Great Britain and have been bailed out by the taxpayers of Great Britain. So I dont think the banks can really tell either the Yes or No campaigns what is in the Best interest of Scotland or England.

I really think neither option is wrong or right, they are just different, one may be a little more rollercoaster but might turn out really great in the end. It will just take longer.

Scotland is a very cool place (sorry I mean cold). . . . HAH AH HAH ah ha hahah ha hah ah ah ah hah ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

  2. I don't think I wiLL be able to vote either. I have been looking And asking around for a polling place and people just give me strange looks. Perhaps my Scottish accent sounds too much like an Irish accent. I get most of my accent trAining from Craig Ferguson, so he is to blame. And if it fails by just a half vote, then my one vote would have made aLL the difference.

    1. It could be that close in the end, you can never tell. Things have been getting very tense but my own support for the yes campaign was boosted yesterday with caramelized Pineapple chunks with fresh cream. . . .

  3. I am absolutely fascinated by which way this vote will go. The only opinion on the subject I will respect, however, is Mel Gibson. He played the guy with the blue painted face, who else would have a valid opinion on the matter?

    1. As I remember Mel Gibson was not that popular in Scotland what with the small issue of him not being a Scot.

There are many blue faces when Scotland play football. . . it has been said Scotland has the greatest fans in the world and the worst team.

Maybe the Scots should all vote for the first politician to paint his face blue, it seems as good a way to work out who is right as any.

  4. If Scotland gets it's independence the rest of the UK will see it's statistics rise!
We will have less rain fall, more sun shine, the average population of the rUK will see a dramatic drop in the population of midges and we will all live longer... it will be like living in the tropics!

One thing I do worry about is that if the Scots break away and become their own nation... will the americans try and liberate it from it's oil???? They have form on these things.

    1. Many Americans have Scottish ancestry so they may say that in many ways the oil is theirs anyway. Particularly as we were stupid enough to bury it all at sea.

As I live in England near Wales and have now declared my own house an independent country. I will also be looking for better statistics too. Sadly the balance of payment deficit is not looking good, although a £7.50p win on the Euromillions means I am the countries highest paid lottery winner since independence yesterday.
