The Apprentice Final, Lord Sugar, the BBC and Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous Steam Powered Mechanical Duck

Last night I watched The Apprentice the program on the television where that Lord Sugar is selecting a business partner and making a few pounds at the same time (he is no fool that’s for sure). Last night was the interview with the last five candidates remaining where they have to explain their business plan to several high fly business folk who pick holes in each plan and tell them they are in fact total rubbish.

As I watched it, it became very clear that in reality all five of them really did have really rubbish ideas, well OK four of them did, but the fifth was doing a sneaky and had another partner hidden behind the scenes so basically got chucked out for not playing by the rules.

It now means that the last two in the Apprentice final who are both women have ideas that I would not invest in, let alone poor old Lord S who I guess has to grit his teeth and smile… One wants to start a international baking brand which seems slightly mad (??..... Ooooo look a flying pig) and the other, non intervention cosmetic surgery or as far as I could tell, stab folks faces with needles full of stuff (I think)

So I hear you say what has this to do with me, well you see my idea for the program of mass producing Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous Steam Powered Mechanical Duck (ironically called Rob), recreated from the long lost drawing he did, to sell in its millions to the Chinese who love ducks was laughed out of the board room. Those yuppie BBC folk said my idea was futile and would bite the dust before it ever got going, although my prototype Da Vinci Steam Powered Mechanical Duck bit Lord Sugar rather than the dust during the demonstration which may have affected the final decision and I for one was not amused by being told that all Steam Powered Mechanical Duck scientists are in fact a bunch of Quacks ……………. HAH HHAHAH HAHH AH hah ah ah ha hah ah hah ah ah ha hah ah ah ah ha hah ah aahhh OK it was a bit amusing

  1. Well, I like your ideas much better than theirs. At least yours is unique!

    1. Thank you Miss Laura, but I fear trying to pitch the idea of Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous Steam Powered Mechanical Duck to Lord Sugar would be tricky, even though I reckon he must be quite a nice chap..... OK I have no reason to think that other than instinct, but I tend to be fairly good at sussing folk.... I did not really take to any of the last five candidates or their ideas

  2. I remember a radio show (made it TV for one series on the beeb) called Genius. It was hosted by Dave Gorman and required entrants to come up with brilliant odd ball ideas.
My friend and I came up with the idea of pre-cracked eggs(tm). The idea was that when you want to crack an egg in a hurry, but didn't want all those bits of egg shell in your omelette you could use a pre cracked egg (tm) that had a perforation around the top for easy separation.
We never got picked to be on TV or Radio... I think our idea was TOO clever.

    1. I remember the show I also came up with an idea and did not get picked . . . . It seems to me that if you can not see Genius when it is staring at you square in the face then the show was always doomed.

I feel The Apprentice is doomed after this one as the folk they pick do not have the inspiration to think clever cunning thoughts that us older folk had back in the day and that still lurk just under the surface (of a perforated shell) although I must admit after all this time they are a little scrambled . . . . . . . . . . .HAH HAHAHHHHAHAHH HAH HAH HAH AH HAH AH HAH HA HAH HA HAH AH HAH AH HA HAH AH HA HAH HAH AH HAH AH

    3. I am sure there are lots more clever jokes but at nearly 11.30 with a mad chap in the village burning his furniture with 50ft flames in his garden (I kid you not). Life in the country is full of odd events and I will have forgotten this by the morning, I am off to bed......

  3. For an added twist, I think the Steam-Powered Mechanical Duck, should be a surprise candidate in the final. Duck wins the chance to partner with good old Lord type Sugar.

What say Trump takes over the British version and Sugar takes over the American version.

Mass produce the duck, good sir. Folks will be in a flap to purchase it. What the duck am I talking about....

    1. That's a good idea, combine both versions of the apprentice to create Alald Sugartrumps.

  4. I had thought some or most of my teachers were stream powered ducks, deriving their power recharging from flowing water.

    3. Ooooooo I used to have a fancy flat bed Jig Saw a long time ago which I gave to a friend, but sort of wish I had kept as I would now make more wooden things rather than cardboard things . . . . .

  5. Nice article. The Apprentice - like most reality shows - just shows up the lack of good care in the community programmes available these days.

    1. I know and if one of them had thought of that as a great business opportunity they could have made a mint.
