The Mesopotamian master of mazes

M The Mesopotamian master of mazes

The Mesopotamian master of mazes was a majestic man whose mind was focused on the minute details of maze design and management.  His magnificent mazes were known the world over from Marrakesh to Manchester and Mali.  He always made models of his mazes and kept them in a Moorish Palace high in the mountains full of minarets and marble towers.  One day he was given the task of building the most complex Maze ever known to man by the King who had made the momentous decision that who ever could do the maze could Marry his beautiful daughter, the Princess. The Maze was meticulously made and even magic was said to be melded into the myriad of its paths. Many Many people tried to master the maze from mathematicians to humble mechanics but all failed and all missed the centre by miles.

Then one day as the Mesopotamian master of mazes was mussing over the magnificence of his master maze (one that by now had won medals), a mouse and a mole were passing and muttering.  The Mesopotamian master of mazes was shocked to overhear the mouse and the mole saying how easily they could find the mazes middle if they were inclined to put their minds to it. The Mesopotamian master of mazes said this was madness they were merely a mouse and a mole. But the mole pointed to his mole hills and said “look at all my mounds of mud can you tell me how I managed to get here”, the Mesopotamian master of mazes looked and said “no but”. Then the mouse said I enter the kings castle everyday and climb to the kings room and never have to open any doors can you do that” and the Mesopotamian master of mazes said “no but”

So the mouse and the mole said they would find the middle and tell the Mesopotamian master of mazes what they saw, the mouse was fast and ran up and down each branch of the maze and as they found false routes the mole would mark it with a miniature muddy mound; both working meticulously until they found the middle in what appeared to be only a few minutes. On their return they told the Mesopotamian master of mazes they had seen a Moorish Palace high in the mountains full of minarets and marble towers and model mazes. The Mesopotamian master of mazes was mortified.

And so it was that the Kings daughter was married to a mouse and a Mole became a Grand Duke and the Mesopotamian master of mazes never made another maze ever again and took up music.

  2. It was a veRy mouse-soup-OH!-tamian tail, oops, tale. Since the princess had to marry two, that would normaLLy be bigamy, but in this case it was known as small-amy with the mole and mouse being miniature, mini in stature. Hahahahaha ....

    1. I had to read mouse-soup-OH!-tamian tail a few times My ESB until it clicked, (my brain clicked). I think the mouse married the Princess, because Moles are reclusive unsociable creatures that grumble loads, much like myself although I don't eat worms. . . . . . . . OK just the odd one (or two)

    1. No indeed but it is classic fairy tale, outcomes are not always those you think. Much like life itself.

  4. But the crucial question is, did they all live happily ever after??

This post really did flow like a classic fairytale. Still going strong Mr Z. :)

    1. Its a good question but I think only the mole did, well maybe the mouse too depending on how much cheese and chocolate was in the kingdom.

Roll on Z, I am flagging now and want to go home.
