The Surprise in Milton Keynes and Roundabouts

Well as you know yesterday I was away in Molten Beans which in fact turned out to be Milton Keynes, but I knew it sounded like food of some sort. And as I said we were off to see a man about certain things, which was a secret sixtieth birthday party for a very old family friend that dad used to go to school with and then they both worked at the same place for a while and then both moved about in different directions but still managed to remain in contact over the years. We then stayed in a hotel based on the rabbit warren principle which was OK as long as you tied a piece of string to your room door handle, this way you could always get back to it. Until a foolish little old lady cut it in half with a pair of scissors, why do little old ladies carry scissors anyway, its not normal. OK yes I am being distracted and that is not good.

Breakfast was an all you can eat affair with things hidden in large pots quietly bubbling away and piles of toast, cereal and crumpets as well as fruit juice and tea and coffee and so on. Bearing in mind it is an all you can eat job there was not too much fighting going on by the masses, but I think part of that is the hotel getting the fine line between food you then run off and complain about, and food that is really great so you eat loads of it all day. In other words it was OK but after three of four full English breakfasts you just think I am not enjoying this so I will go. But all in all it was OK for a rabbit warren.

The party was good too and Mr F (who was sixty) and Miss A (his wife) got a shock because he was not expecting to see us and when he saw me he shouted O MY GOD YOU'RE NOT HERE TOO AAAAaaaaAAaaaaaaauugggghHHHH but mum said it was OK as she had chained me to a table. Apparently it’s an old tradition in Milton Keynes that the youngest is chained to a table at parties, I asked a few people because it sounded a bit odd to me but they all said it was.

I am not sure how many of you have been to Milton Keynes it is an odd place to drive round as I remembered when dad starting swearing a lot, because it is full of roundabouts, hundreds of them and all the main roads are lined with bushes and trees so look identical. The result of this is that if you do not know where you are or where you are going you do go round and round in circles and round and round roundabouts all day.

Then today we have arrived home at the time we were expected to arrive home and so all is well although I have had a message from the Ghost Writer who says he has to go to work tomorrow and it is NOT FAIR . . . .

.Ooooooo Yes the fish pond is still frozen, it was like that when we left.

  1. Did you have to eat from a bowl on the floor while you were chained?

Thanks for stopping by Just the Cheese.

    1. No I got to eat normally but not being from a roundabout sort of place meant I was seen as something of an anomaly and you know what us humans are like with anomalies best to be on the safe side.

  2. I have always found surprise birthday parties to be better than parties where the guest of honour is expecting it to happen. I don't know why, but everyone seems to have more fun.

    1. I am not a fan of surprise parties, but I will say one thing in there favour if it is a surprise then you have not had to organise it and that is a good thing.

The Ghost Writer is sixty in August and the surprise is that he will not be having a party. To ensure it really is a surprise we are making sure that he thinks we are. He will be well shocked sat at home in the dark on his own. . . .

  3. Ooh that place looks posh but then MacDonalds is considered posh around here.

I got quite a shock yesterday when I looked on my dashboard and didn't see a post from you. Then I read the last post and all became clear. And so I sighed a huge sigh of relief, though it was more an expulsion of air as I also had trapped wind. :)

    1. It was not really very posh but it was the only place the family could find that was suitable for all to get too. Where we live MacDonald's is a long way away and we have boycotted it now for about forty years, so it is not our fault.

I am still about Miss Lily but the Brain is cold and not working in writing mode that well at present. . . . . and I have that A to Z thing to do soon too. . . . YICKS

    1. I was s'pposed to go to a job interview today but we are in a severe blizzard at the moment. The owner of the local manufacturing business happened to see me at the restaurant Saturday evening and told me that I should come by to see his HR department guy.

    2. So you had a good long trip, was it about two and a half hours? I tried to look up the place and figure the distance.

    3. Spot on with the timing Mr ESB although it can vary hugely due to traffic on the M6 which can mean a trip of two and a half hours on a good run(which we had) or five or six hours if the M6 is grid locked at Birmingham which is a very common event indeed.

I do not like the sound of blizzards and good luck with the job. I too did a lot of drinking between the ages of 0 and 2 and I blame it for my memory to this day.

    4. I read several things about Milton Keynes. I found an article about famous cow and calf sculptures. We have something like that in Amarillo TX with a variety of horse statues decorated in business colors and other themes, some local, some bizarre. I need to start a blog just for this purpose. The city of Tulsa OK has penguins.

    5. The Milton Keynes Cows have been painted in many different ways over the years from Zombie cows to Zebra.

We also know someone who was involved in making life size fibreglass cows and yet another person who makes horses that fireman can use to practice saving horses from difficult situations. I have not heard of people making Penguins before.

    1. Miss Laura I feel that people will only be pleased to see you, you sound lovely unlike me who is a bit of a grumpy chap....

  6. I love this post! It was really funny! I've never been to Milton Keys but I know of the type of rabbit warrens of which you speak. They're basically mazes - I wouldn't be surprised to meet a Minotaur in one of the corridors!
It sounds like a nice trip, in it's own way...

    1. It was indeed a good trip Miss M, it is always good to meet old friends and catch up on stuff.

In the corridors of the hotel we stayed at it was mainly little old ladies and reps rather than the Minotaur sadly. I wish they would do something like paint each corridor a different colour or something then it would be a bit easier to navigate
